Speed rating is a handy system to indicate the range of speeds your tire is certified to safely handle under specific service conditions. This rating is indicated by a letter, A-Y, tacked onto the end of the tire’s service description, as seen here:

When tires have a maximum speed capability above 149 mph (240 km/h), a “ZR” may appear in the service description and if it can handle over 186 mph (300 km/h), it must. Here is an example:
